Cambodian Prime Minister Advocates for an Enhanced and Sustainable Tourism Sector.

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Manet, in his role as Honorary Chairman of the National Committee for Clean City Assessment, has reaffirmed his commitment to further restoring, promoting, and developing Cambodia's tourism sector. He believes this will contribute significantly to the country's socio-economic progress.

The Prime Minister urged relevant ministries, institutions, local administrations, and the public to prioritize maintaining peace, security, stability, and prosperity. He emphasized that these are the fundamental pillars for building clean, connected, and smart cities that are economically competitive, environmentally sustainable, and socially responsible.

He also called for the continued strengthening of public-private partnerships at national and sub-national levels. This collaboration, he stressed, is vital for fostering sustainable development, including urban and tourism development, accountability, environmental protection, and the provision of safe services and welcoming hospitality.

Building on past initiatives, Prime Minister Manet encouraged continued support for various campaigns and standards aimed at maintaining cleanliness and improving the visitor experience. These include:

"Youth and Clean City" campaign

"One Tree" campaign

"Clean Cambodia" campaign

"Clean the Rivers and Seas" contest movement

"Prime Minister Award for Green Business in Tourism" contest movement

"Good Hospitality" contest movement

Implementation of "Clean Public Toilets" standards

Implementation of "Cambodian Street Food" standards

According to the Prime Minister, promoting these campaigns, competitions, and standards will play a crucial role in transforming Cambodian cities into attractive, vibrant, sustainable, and environmentally friendly tourist destinations.

He further directed the Ministry of Tourism and the National Committee for Clean City Assessment to collaborate with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Interior, and other relevant ministries in launching the "Clean Tourism Town" competition in 2024. This initiative aims to expand the scope of urban cleanliness initiatives across the country.

Cambodia People's Party President Hun Sen has also urged the Ministry of Tourism and the National Committee for Clean City Assessment to maintain their collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Interior, and other relevant ministries. The goal is to launch the 'Clean Tourism Town' competition in 2024, which aims to broaden the scope of clean urban governance. Additionally, partnerships for city development should be fortified by promoting both national and international cooperation, sharing knowledge, expertise, and best practices, and mobilizing resources.

Finally, Prime Minister Manet emphasized the importance of strengthening city development partnerships. He called for promoting national and international cooperation, sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices, and mobilizing resources to achieve the shared goal of a thriving and sustainable tourism sector in Cambodia.
